Mecanum Omniwheel for AGV and AMR robots

The Mecanum wheels are made up of rollers with particular geometry and specially placed at angles of 45 degrees that allow the vehicle to move forward, backward, rotate in place and go in all directions. 

Mecanum wheels theoretically increase the degree of freedom of the vehicle in which they are used. They were invented in 1970 by Bengt ILON, one of the engineers at the Swedish company Mecanum AB. Later, the US military bought this patent and worked on its development in Panama. These wheels were used by the army to transport supplies and ships. They offer, in terms of maneuvers, possibilities that no other wheel can offer you. Thus, you have the possibility to use your equipment at 100% of its capacity thanks to a 360° rotation and a possibility of diagonal or lateral movement.
