The patented ToolBase is an instant setup placeholder for various robot tools. a connected tool is provided with all the necessary energy and communication to be able to work. That is accurate mechanical fixation, 24V DC power, air pressure, vacum, control signals, feedback and sometimes also data communication.

The mechanical clamping is achieved simply by turning the union ring 90°. Upon closing the ToolBase/Tool combination is configured for the current tool. The robot now controls the tool by a single digital line and feedback to the robot is also a single digital line. Two robot I/O can control two Tools. All the extra housekeeping is handled embedded in the ToolBase Dual.

Standard tools are:

  • – Vacuum gripper: Toolbase provides vacuum and release pressure. Feedback to robot is the vacuum level.
  • – Finger Gripper: ToolBase provides opening and closing pneumatic pressure. Feedback to the robot is finger position.
  • – Dispenser: Toolbase provides adjustable feed pressure at activation and a vacuum level controlled back suction to stop the flow. Optinal feedback is a capacitive sensor monitoring the medium.
  • – Pneumatic magnet: ToolBase provides activate/deactivate pneumatic pressure. optinal feedback to the robot is an inductive sensor.
  • – Electrical magnet. ToolBase provides electrical power for magnetization. At release runs a demagnetization sequence.
  • – Digitizer: The digitizer is simply a pointing stick.

– Screwdriver: ToolBase charges electrically a battery bank during moving to and from screw dispenser and doing other tasks. Vacuum is provided for screw pick-up. Feedback to the robot is screw presence (vacuum level) and also screw torque at end. The two signals are separated when using MODBUS communication.
